Hubbard Marine Fish Hatchery in Carlsbad Releases 2 Millionth White Seabass Into Pacific Ocean
The SCE-funded Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The Leon Raymond Hubbard Jr. Marine Fish Hatchery, built largely with funds donated by Edison, overlooks the the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad, Calif.
A hatchery employee inserts a tiny metal "tag" into the gill of a young white seabass before it is released into the ocean. The tag helps researchers track where the fish migrate.
Mark Drawbridge, senior research scientist at Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, shows locations along the coast where young seabass undergo a four-month “grow-out” period in small cages operated by local fishing clubs.
